This guide covers using Wolfram's Mathematica Online for off campus use from your personal device.

NOTE

Mathematica Online is meant for existing Mathematica users and prospective customers that need a cloud based Mathematica experience. It will make it easier to share notebooks, publish your work, and edit/view notebooks on the go. If you get Premier Service Plus, it includes Mathematica Online. Simplifyexpr performs a sequence of algebraic and other transformations on expr and returns the simplest form it finds. Simplifyexpr, assum does simplification using assumptions. Mathematica is a computational software program used in many scientific, engineering, mathematical and computing fields.

These instructions are for use on personal computers only. For SU computers, please see Installing Software using Software Center/Self Service.


Create a Wolfram Mathematica account

  1. Go to http://user.wolfram.com and Create an Account using your SU email address.
    1. If you already have a Mathematica account see How to access Mathematica online or How to install Mathematica software on a personal device below.
  2. Fill out the form to create a Wolfram ID and then click Create Wolfram ID.
  3. A confirmation window will appear confirming that you’ve created your account. You will receive a validation email at your su email address.
  4. Once you click the link in your email to validate your account, you will be directed to a confirmation screen.

How to access Mathematica Online

  1. Go to this link and request access to Mathematica Online using the Mathematica Online Request Form
  2. Look for an approval in your SU email. Click the link in the email to complete the application approval.

7. Go to Mathematica Online and login using your su email address and the password previously created.

8. Click Go to Product under My Subscriptions

9. Sign in again using your SU email address and the Mathematica password you created.

10. Begin using Mathematica Online

'Within the 20% of admission offices that value some AP subjects over others: #1: Calc AB; #2: Calc BC; #3: Chem; #4: Bio; #5: Eng Lang.'1 This was a quote from the College Board's head of AP, Trevor Packer, when he was reporting the 2015 AP Exam Score Distributitons which certainly speaks highly of the value placed on taking an AP Calculus AB or BC class.
In its Advanced Placement Report to the Nation: the College Board stated that the Advanced Placement Program ® enables students to pursue college-level studies while still in high school. That’s a pretty bold statement if you think about it. When I remember my college Calculus courses they weren’t for the fainthearted.

In order to backup their claim of offering college level studies, the College Board went to the faculty of several universities and asked them to list the curricular requirements of their courses and the textbooks they used. As a result, the College Board implemented an AP Course Audit, designed to ensure each course labeled 'AP' provides students with the content knowledge and resources needed for them to have a successful college-level experience while still in high school.

As to whether an AP ® Calculus course successfully provides a rigorous and academically challenging calculus course, the following findings speak for themselves: “…while the Third International Math and Science Study found that U.S. math and physics students “were not leading, but lagging behind other students around the world in mathematics and physics achievement, ”2 AP students, even those scoring 1's and 2's on the AP Exam, were hailed for having demonstrated in the study, calculus and physics knowledge comparable to that of the highest achieving calculus and physics students in the world.” 3

The Ars Mathematica Online AP ® Calculus AB and BC courses have been audited and approved by the College Board as authorized AP ® courses.

The Ars Mathematica Online college textbook and syllabus provide high school students an opportunity to participate in a rigorous and academically challenging course.

Each Ars Mathematica Online AP ® Calculus course is a complete two-semester course for homeschoolers. The BC course covers all of the AB topics, plus the additional BC topics, to fulfill the requirements of the College Board BC Course Description.
